This is the figure that I spent the most time on during my years of academic research. It is part of a long-time collaboration with Elyse Fischer and David Barford.

Mad2 Supp Fig 1 Source: DOI:10.1002/pro.70099

I was working on Mad2, an extraordinary protein that has seen decades of research into its metamorphic structure (yes, this protein changes form! ). I spent many hours carefully reviewing the literature to identify differences in the constructs, structures, and methodologies used in each study. In the process, I realised that this summary itself was a valuable piece of work that should be shared with the field.

My goal was to distill years of structural data into a single figure, highlighting both the insights and limitations of each structure. It had to capture the complexity of Mad2’s metamorphic transitions without overwhelming the readers. I also wanted it to serve as a reliable map, allowing readers to trace information back to its original source.

Looking back, I am still incredibly proud of this figure. And without realizing it at the time, it was my first curation project.
